Hygiene / Scaling / Root Planning

Meet the gingivitis police! Our hygienists are specially trained in assessing and restoring gum health. They are extremely thorough and will work with you to achieve great foundations for dental health.

Maybe it’s been a while since you had a clean…? Maybe you fear that you will be judged or ‘told off’ because your gums are bleeding, sore and maybe your breath isn’t so fresh. We would love to see you. Good gum health creates the foundations for a beautiful, confident smile.

What to Expect

Everyone’s needs are different and some patients require more than a ‘routine clean’.

If it has been more than 2 years since you have seen a dental professional for a check up (excluding emergency work), you will see a dentist to do a thorough check up, usually including xrays and any photographs discussed with you. Once a treatment plan has been tailored to your needs it will be discussed whether you require a single-visit or multi-visit cleaning AND if this is surface cleaning (general) or deep cleaning (specialised) – this is based on the amount of harmful build-up around your gums, extent of any bone loss you might have, how difficult it is to access and whether you will need some anaesthetic.

The cleaning itself may be with the dentist initially or you might be booked with to our hygienists to manage your gums. Treatment time is typically 30-45 mins. Once we feel that your gums are becoming stable, you will see our hygienists to maintain them and continue to improve them.

Depending on your risk, regular cleaning may be recommended as often as every 4-6 months and our lovely ladies will continue to work closely with you in order to empower you to take charge of your dental health.

For our regular attenders, you will see your hygienist for most of the appointment while a dentist will come in to do their own assessment. Two heads are better than one after all!

FAQs

Will my gums hurt after?

Depending on the condition of your gums before the cleaning, some discomfort can be expected, though many of our patients report this is barely noticeable for routine cleaning.

Can I eat/drink after my clean?

For routine, uncomplicated cleaning, you can go about your day normally after your appointment. If local anaesthetic has been used, we advise to wait until the effect has worn off to avoid any accidental injury to the tissues.

How long does it take?

30-45mins of treatment time, though your total appointment time may be slightly longer.

How often do I need a clean?

Anywhere between 4-monthly to 12-monthly based on your risks. For example, for anyone with dental implant/s should have a professional cleaning every 4 months.

What are the costs?

$200-$400 per cleaning appointment depending on complexity.
